Hello everybody. I am Elliot Cherner, and I am happy to let you into my life (a little bit). First, a bit about me. I was born in Chicago over 60 years ago, lived in Chicago until I was 12, then moved to Phoenix, Arizona. I graduated from High School and went to Chaparral High School in Scottsdale, AZ. From there I went into the US Navy from 1981 to 1993, seeing the world several times as both a west coast and east coast sailor. Yes, I am a shellback. The main reason I got out of the service was to persue educational options that I didn’t take advantage of when I was younger. While I was getting my degree I worked a variety of jobs. I was a maintenance technician in a factory, I worked as a sales person at a computer company, and I worked as the IT support in a marketing mailhouse. Once I received my MBA in 1998 I joined the Maricopa County Community College District, beginning as a programmer, and moving into the teaching side of the house in 2008. I received my Doctorate of Education in 2016 from NorthCentral University. One of the proudest days of my life. I have been working at MCCCD for 26 years. I also teach at Arizona State University.
On February 14, 2016 I married my soul-matey Barbara. Our life together has been one continual adventure, going from place to place and seeing different parts of the country, as well as the world. I know the next part of my life will involve extensive travelling, and I look forward to this.
